SHORT TERM COURSES

EXPERIENCED DRIVER?
If you are an 'experienced' driver with an overseas licence, but needing to obtain a UK licence it is well worth having a good preparation for actual Driving Test. Even if the Test area is fairly familiar it is unlikely that you will have seen all the routes that are possible to be used and there can be, within any Test area, just a few locations which can be awkward or easily misunderstood.
Perhaps more importantly you may have developed 'a certain style' and other unusual habitsbthat the examiner might take a dislike to, so you will need to improve or change those habits and be comfortable with them.
Typically it can be use (or not) of mirrors & blindspots, awareness (or not) of speed limits, understanding other road signs & markings, positioning on roundabouts and not observing properly whilst carrying out the required reversing manoeuvre.
EXAMINERS
Examiners will easily recognise those who have learned to drive outside the UK and how much of an experienced driver they happen to be. Provided you drive neatly, safely and have improved the inherent bad habits, the examiner may well be lenient and tolerant of your style - and not penalise you in the same way as other novice learners might be.
OTHER COURSES
There are other short term courses available - as an AA Driving School instructor I can deliver the following courses, full details of which can be found via the AA website link.

The in-car sessions will include an initial assessment followed by guided practice and coaching. The couse also comes with an accompanying workbook to support the in-car sessions and help you identify where you might need training.
Drive Smart
Also a 2 hour course for qualified drivers which provides refresher training in driving safely and shows you how to save money by improving fuel economy. A workbook is provided which contains exercises to be completed before the first lesson.
Supporting Learner Drivers
Again a 2 hour course aimed at helping parents or guardians of learner drivers, to support the learner's driving experience and gain useful insight in to coaching the learner in between their paid-for lessons. The course is accompanied by a detailed 48 page booklet and covers topics such as; Planning the practice, Coaching the Learner, updated information on the DSA Driving Test, Show Me Tell Me, Commentary Driving and much more.
These courses will need to be booked directly with the AA, but you can ask for me to be the instructor, if you wish.
